Special Olympics Celebrity Winterfest takes place this weekend at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe and Diamond Peak Ski Resort, the two local co-sponsors of the festival.
The fun starts Friday with an opening reception at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt, followed by a no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Opening ceremonies start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Diamond Peak, followed by a corporate-sponsored, celebrity giant slalom run on Diamond Peak's Show Off run, to start at 10 a.m. A reception, awards dinner and live auction take place starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt. The event concludes with the Plungefest starting at 9 a.m. Sunday at Hyatt beach.
It's the first year on the North Shore for the fundraising event, which supports Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada; the agreement among Special Olympics, Diamond Peak and the Hyatt has scheduled Winterfest in Incline until 2012.
