In the final month before the inaugural Lake Tahoe Chautauqua Festival, residents and visitors have an opportunity to support the event and obtain an original, signed, limited-edition print, which is the event's only fundraiser.
Renowned Incline watercolor artist Barb Kallestad has rendered a sunset over Lake Tahoe print especially for the festival. Kallestad is making no money off of the sales of the prints, but is donating the proceeds entirely to the festival.
"I was happy to help out when Lyn asked me," Kallestad said of event organizer, Lyn Karol.
The prints are available for $25 at galleries around the lake. Art Attack gallery in Incline's Christmas Tree shopping center is offering a 20 percent discount on a frame purchased at the gallery for the print. At Frames by Ryrie, in Tahoe City's Cobblestone Mall, anyone purchasing a print may buy a frame for it at the gallery at a 10 percent discount. The James Harold Gallery at the Boat Works Mall (formerly Sierra Gallery) also in Tahoe City is offering the prints and at South Lake Tahoe, Eagle Valley Frames is offering the prints at Round Hill Mall.
Kallestad has shown and displayed work in many locations on the North Shore.
Advance tickets for the Lake Tahoe Chautauqua will be available at area Chamber of Commerce locations around the lake.
The festival is scheduled for two evenings, Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8. This year, the Nevada Humanities Committee has chosen the World War II era for its focus. Sunday's performances include Eleanor Roosevelt, portrayed by Ann Saville; Ernie Pyle, portrayed by Doug Mishler; and Anne Frank, portrayed by 10-year-old Elia Pirtle.
Tickets for early admission, from 6 p.m., cost $20; general admission, beginning at 6:30, is $15; and students from age 13 are $10. VIP seating is available for $100.
