When good friends Ashley Machado and Amanda Werbeckes were working hairdressers, they dreamed of someday owning a clothing shop.
That dream finally came true two years ago with the opening of their first store in Reno.
"We were always complaining that we had to go out of town to clothes shop," Machado said. "So we decided to open the type of shop that we always went out of town for."
Lodo Loft of Reno, located in the Plumbgate Shopping Center, opened two years ago and was an immediate success, not only with Reno residents, but with basin patrons who came down the hill.
"Over the course of our two years, we had several customers from Incline," Werbeckes said. "They were always telling us that we needed to open a store up there, and after a while, that's what we decided to do."
"This location was just prime for us," Machado said, referring to their location upstairs in the Village Plaza at 893 Tahoe Blvd, Suite 1200.
Since their opening the day after Thanksgiving, the partners have been keeping busy fine tuning the operation.
"We keep adding to our lines of men and women's wear," Machado said. "And in the near future we will carry a long line of kids' specialty items."
Currently, Lodo Loft carries such lines as Lucky, Juicy Couture, Theory, True Religion, Joie, Diane Von Furstenburg, Ben Sherman and C&C T-shirts.
"We carry everything from sweats to formal wear," Machado said. "With the holidays upon us, a lot of people are happy they don't have to go down the hill for their formal clothes."
Though it's a small, intimate shop, Lodo Loft has no fear of running out of merchandise.
"We get deliveries every day, so there's never a shortage of inventory or styles," Werbeckes said.
Besides their multiple clothing lines, Machado and Werbeckes offer personalized shopping services, as well as alterations and free gift wrapping.
Lodo Loft is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We are really excited to be up here in Incline to fill the need for quality apparel for discriminating shoppers," Werbeckes said.
