Does Incline Village need a new post office or is the one we have good enough?
What may be more important than that question is the fact that people care about the community's answers.
Representatives from the Post Office and from Rep. Jim Gibbons' and Sen. John Ensign's offices came to Incline this week to hear locals' thoughts on a proposed post office. After receiving several letters from residents, Postal Service and congressional representatives were responsive to the needs they heard.
For their communication and participation in this community, the Bonanza would like to say thank you.
The Incline Village Post Office hosted a meet and greet in its main building Monday. Incline Postmaster Eric Silverberg; John Morgan, manager of post office operations for the Nevada Sierra District; and Dee Dee Terrano, manager of consumer affairs for the Nevada Sierra District, attended the Bonanza's Tuesday morning community meeting the following day.
"We wanted to get a feel of what is going on in Incline," Terrano said, emphasizing how impressed she was with the community's thoughts and opinions on the proposed post office on Village Way and Tanager Street.
Spokeswoman Brett Mulligan from Ensign's office and spokeswoman Dianne Cornwall from Gibbon's office attended the Tuesday morning meeting as well, keeping the lines of communication open between Incline residents and Washington. They said they hope to better understand what's going on in Incline.
If elected officials and federal employees are willing to listen, we all need to be willing to talk.
Post office officials came to Incline to hear our opinions, but the meet and greet was sparsely attended.
Many did attend the Bonanza's community meeting Tuesday - and that's what we need more of.
Whatever your opinion about a new post office, our community leaders need to know. Write letters, call, e-mail, or better yet, make your voice heard in your community newspaper. Write a letter to the editor, or try out the Bonanza's new community Web site, NorthTahoeLiving.com. The new Web site allows visitors to post contributions online to share with other readers. Check it out at NorthTahoeLiving.com, and tell the community and post office officials what you think about a new post office in Incline Village.
Let's let those who care about our opinions know what they are.
