Wednesday afternoon the walls and display cases at the Incline Village Library were filled with installations from local artists Sam Beckerman and Jacqueline Just.

Today from 4 to 5 p.m., the Incline Village Library will host an artist reception for the pair.

Just's medium, "quilling," also called "paper scrolling" or "paper filigree," is the art of creating designs using narrow strips of paper that are rolled and shaped, glued together and arranged in patterns, she explained.

"This is the largest display (of quilling) I have done," Just said. "From drawing, sculpturing and making jewelry, art has always been apart of my life."

Just described the quilling process:

"The first thing with quilling is that the pieces build up through a pattern," Just said. "There are traditional paper quilling shapes, tear drop or loose scrolls, that build on top of one another.

"(The artwork) is very intricate, very detailed. Visually they have a three dimensional quality."

Sam Beckerman's "mixed media" literary artwork pieces are also on display through the end of the month. Beckerman uses recycled books as her medium's platform.

"You recycle a book you either love or hate," Beckerman said. "old or new book and creatively change it into a work of art through cutting, tearing, pasting, painting, stamping, drilling, bolting, beading, sewing. It's like scrapbooking. There are no rules."

The show's organizers said they are lucky to feature both artists.

"Both of the artists have completely different types of art. We have never had these styles of art displayed here before," Incline Village Library manager Pam Rasmussen said.
