Bonanza Photo - Emma Garrard Incline Vision is compiling results they received from the Incline Vision suggestion boxes.
The demographic subcommittee of Incline Vision is busy compiling the results of 150-plus initial submissions the group has culled from ubiquitous blue and black Incline Vision boxes that have graced the countertops, tables and reception desks around town for the last month and a half.
While the results of the surveys are preliminary, subcommittee members said they are beginning to see trends among the responses.
Virgina Miller, a subcommittee member who teaches ESL classes to both pre-kindergarten classes and adults, said most of the responses she has received come from the non-English speaking demographic that makes up her classes.

Miller said a large majority of those surveys express concerns regarding affordable housing and improved rental conditions, employment concerns and affordable programs for youth and social services.
Barbara Perlman Whyman, chair of the demographic subcommittee, said affordable housing and programs for young children are also two trends she has noticed among the responses.
Perlman Whyman said while she is pleased with the results so far, she hopes for more submissions in the months to come.

"Everybody in town should fill (a questionnaire out)," she said.
The Incline Vision boxes are not the first attempt to collect opinions and concerns of Incline residents.
Previous surveys sponsored by IVGID and Washoe County have also attempted to read the pulse of the Incline populate. However, most previous surveys targeted specific groups such as home owners or seniors.

Demographic subcommittee officials said they hope to collect opinions from a much broader base: "It is important that we get representation from anyone who is here - from people on vacation, to seasonal workers, to thirty year residents, to school children," Perlman Whyman said.
Eventually the information collected by the subcommittee will be compiled and reported back to the Incline Vision Organizing Committee to send on to the Pathway 2007 place based planning group for Incline Village/Washoe County - to guide planing direction for Incline's future and its place in the basin.
"This is just the idea of democracy in action what our country is based on," subcommittee member Miller said. "In order to have democracy you have to collect everyone's opinions, to include everyone in the process - not just those people in the positions of power."
To submit an opinion, look for the "Incline Vision" blue boxes at locations such as Starbucks, the recreation center, the post office, and other businesses around town.
