In what head coach Aaron Parsons called a "confidence builder," the Incline Lady Highlander tennis team narrowly lost to last year's number one rated Galena Lady Grizzlies (2-1) tennis team 10-8 on Friday at the Incline tennis complex.

"There was excellent play by all the girls," Parsons said. "There were several close matches that could have gone either way."

For the lady Highlanders (2-1), the first round was the hardest with singles player Suzy Thompson and the doubles team of Jessica Dykstra and Cheryl Pillsbury scoring the only wins.

Round two proved almost as futile, with Incline again winning just two matches, courtesy of doubles teams Kate Mitchell and Aislinn Murray and Elizabeth Ferme and Amanda Martini.

Down 8-4 entering the third and final round, the Lady Highlanders rallied taking the last four of six matches.

Winners in the third round included Wickland and Alessandra Richards in the singles division and the doubles teams of Mitchell and Murray and Ferme and Martini.

"We were very close to winning a lot of these games. It just didn't work out this time," Parsons said. "But nonetheless, I'm very proud of our team and the effort they put forth. A match like this can go a long way in helping us for the rest of the season."

The Lady Highlanders will be visiting Bishop Manogue tomorrow with the match to begin at 3 p.m., while the boys host the Miners at the Incline Village Tennis Center beginning at 3 p.m.
