Incline tennis teams gain split

While the Lady Highlander tennis team made the long trip to Reed High School in Reno, the boys had the luxury of playing at home.

Unfortunately for the boys, home cooking was less than favorable, as they lost their match 11-7

The Highlanders boys narrowly lost to Reed, as they welcomed the return of senior player Bryce Holman.

Holman's return was well received as he won two of his three matches.

"He'll be a big help the rest of the season," boys tennis coach Joel Kivo said.

Kivo also cited the play of freshman Bo Baker, who continued his strong season winning two of his three matches.

The Highlanders also featured a new doubles team combination of Kevin Bennett and Jimmy Sagan who won two of their three matches.

"Look for the Highlander boys to be strong contenders in the rest of their matches," Kivo said.

For the Lady Highlanders, several close games that went their way was the difference in match, according to head coach Aaron Parsons.

"It was a great match for the girls, developmentally speaking," Parsons said. "We have a lot of new players and matches like this give them the experience they need. It's a long season and we have plenty of time to get where we need to be."

The first round showed only one match loss as the doubles team of Elizabeth Ferme and Amanda Martini fought to a game seven before losing the only Incline loss of the round.

Shea Wickland, Susie Thompson and Alessandra Richards won their singles matches, while Jessica Dykstra and Cheryl Pillsbury won their doubles match.

After shutting out the Raiders in games 6-0 in the second round, the Lady Highlanders gained a split in games for round three.

Freshman Madeline Paul won her match 4-6, followed by victories from the doubles teams of Dykstra and Pillsbury 0-6, followed by a 1-6 win from the team of Ferme and Taylor Sundberg.

Wins were also turned in by Lauren Bernstein, 6-0 and 6-4, Aisliinn Murray and Katie Mitchell in doubles, 6-4 and another doubles win by Shannon Bundy and Rebecca Corpuel, 6-2.
