'Tis the season... to be busy for local hotels and casinos, which, representatives said, begin the busiest 10-day stretch of the year today.

Here's a look at what local resorts and casinos have going for gamers, revelers and guests this holiday week.

The Hyatt

"Holidays are a huge period for us," said Scott Ruhl, casino general manager at the Hyatt in Incline Village.

"We will increase our staff by about 60 percent - significantly more dealers, food and beverage workers and security."

Traditionally, the Hyatt runs at full capacity on New Year's Eve - somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 people milling around the casino floor, Ruhl said.

This year should be no different especially with good weather predicted he noted.

For their most-valued clientele, the Hyatt hosts an exclusive, invite-only, very formal gala event on New Year's Eve.

The party includes a six-course meal, a fully orchestrated Broadway-type show and music and dancing to ring in the New Year complete with a balloon drop at midnight.

"We will spend six figures just to pull off the party," Ruhl said.

The Biltmore

"We're looking forward to having a great great holiday season here at the Biltmore," said Alan Mayer, director of marketing and hotel operations. "It's already happening."

The Tahoe Biltmore is already completely booked for New Year's Eve, which promises to be an exciting night throughout Crystal Bay Mayer said.

"We're going to have entertainment everywhere down on the floor - it's going to be a busy night," Mayer said.

In addition to the free music and champagne and cake on the casino floor, the Biltmore will also host "A Night in Italy New Year's Celebration: Francis For Coppola Vineyards" including a five-course meal with seating still available for singles and couples.

The Crystal Bay Club

"Since we have a slow period from Thanksgiving until Christmas, it really requires people to switch gears and be ready for a busy couple of weeks," said Bill Wood, director of marketing at the Crystal Bay Club.

Wood said that the week between Christmas and New Year's is the busiest time for the casino and that New Year's Eve is the single busiest night of the year.

To accommodate the extra crowds on New Year's Eve, Wood said the casino will triple its security presence and check ID's at every door.

The Nugget

The Nugget will offer free food, drinks and champagne on New Year's Eve, but owner Jeff Kelley predicts a steady but "mellow" holiday.

Since the casino is really a locals spot, Kelley said he expects The Nugget to be a little more low-key than the neighboring clubs.

"The other clubs do big huge parties. We try to capture the people that don't want to get caught up in the crowds - it's a different feeling in here," Kelley said. "We're a smaller club, but we know our customers. We know what they like, what they drink, we're here for the locals."

The Cal Neva

In the midst of it's 80th year celebration the Cal Neva will roll out music and a toast in its Circle Bar Lounge, with its renowned crystal dome that contains more than 7,000 pieces of hand cut German crystal.

The Lakeview Dining Room will feature special food and wine pairings on New Year's, and the hotel, while sold out for New Year's eve, will also featured additional staff and security to make visitors feel welcome to the "Lady of the Lake" a Cal Neva spokesman said.
