Bonanza Photo - Morgan Kriz Anisha Wilson, 14, Barbara Frederic and Genevieve Reddall, 12, are participants of the senior/middle school collaboration program "Generation Connection".
Interaction between young and old can positively impact both generations - this is no more apparent than in Incline.
Generation Connection, a collaboration between Incline Village General Improvement District Senior Services and Incline Village Middle School, is bringing generations together through fun activities.
The middle school students get together with senior participants on the first and third Mondays of the month from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at the Aspen Grove Community Center and engage in activities, snacks, conversation and build friendships, senior participant Barbara Frederic said.

"We all encourage other seniors to come out and enjoy this program," Frederic said. "This is a valuable time to share with these students. Some of us (seniors) do not have our grandchildren close by and this is a wonderful way to interact with the younger generation.
"We always play card games, puzzles, board games and also knitted. Its an hour and a half, two days a month, its really a great experience."
For 12 year-old Genevieve Reddall, hanging out and playing card games is her favorite part, she said.
"My grandmother passed away last year and Phyllis (Farr, a senior participant) is like my new grandmother," she said. "I like coming to this to hang out after school."

IVGID Senior Services AmeriCorps volunteer Melissa Johnson said while some participants go for the games and others go for the friendships, the environment is very relaxed and all participants walk away with something valuable.
Community members are invited to participate in this program and more seniors are needed, senior participant Phyllis Farr said.
"We need more seniors to come and hang out with the students," Farr said. "There are more students than seniors right now and that is not benefiting the kids. The kids are truly pleasant, very loving and its nice to be with them."
