Print Comment
When considering a move, many parents consider the quality of the schools as a top-of-the-list priority, and the Washoe County schools located in Incline Village rise to the occasion.

From preschool to college, educational opportunities in the area offer quality and diversity to students young and old.

The list of preschools include Village Preschool, Incline Village Nursery School at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Village Presbyterian Church and the Lake Tahoe School, which also features a full academic program for elementary school children.

Lake Tahoe School is an independent school located in Incline serving the entire region. The school offers educational courses for pre-kindergarten through ninth grade.

The school provides leading comprehensive courses preparing students for success in high school, college, career and life.

It is open to students of any race, color, nationality and ethnic origins.
Lake Tahoe School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges and Universities (NASCU).

The mission of the NASCU is to ensure excellence in education by holding schools accountable to rigorous standards and a process of continual improvement.

On the public school front, Incline Elementary School has served the community since 1964 when its doors opened as a K-8 school.
Over the years, the school has housed a variety of grades and population fluctuations from as few as the current population of 432 students to a high of 730 students in 1997.

At the peak of its enrollment, a bond issue was passed to build a satellite school to ease the overcrowding at the site on Southwood Boulevard.

Five years later and with an Act of the United States Congress, the first phase of the new Incline Village Elementary School opened in October of 2003, housing grades third through fifth.

A second bond issue passed which will finish the school in the next few years allowing all elementary students to attend classes at the new campus.

The school offers an Academic Standard Based curriculum with an emphasis on essential literacy and math skills.

Its student population is demographically diverse, and students' standardized test scores are well above the state's average year after year.

The school has an excellent science program which has resulted in the students taking home more awards year after year from the Northern Nevada Regional Science and Invention Fair than any other elementary school.

The school also has a wide range of ways for parents and community members to contribute to the school's success.
These programs include parent helpers, literacy tutors, Meet the Masters art program, and curriculum nights that provide opportunities for positive involvement.

Incline Middle School opened in the fall of 1981.

Since that time it has educated sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders of Incline Village.

The current enrollment is 292 students, with 25 certified teachers, a principal, assistant principal and a counselor.

In addition, there is a support staff of 13.

The entire school staff strives to achieve the school's mission statement: "We, the faculty and staff of Incline Middle School, believe all our students are capable of learning and achieving at high levels. Therefore, we strive to promote rigorous academics, responsible citizenship and positive character development."

The school offers classes for all levels of students, with 30 percent of the students enrolled in honor classes.

The school is consistently one of the highest scoring middle schools in the Washoe County School District on standardized tests.
The school offers foreign language, technology, computer classes and other electives, including an award-winning music program.

The Incline Middle School Junior Booster Club is an actively involved parent group that supports various yearly events, such as the spelling bee and science fair.

The club is committed to increasing communication between the school and parents on all school related matters, whether educational, social or athletic.

Incline High School, the home of the Highlanders, was founded in 1969 and serves about 400 9-12 grade students.

Offering a full curriculum of core subjects, the school also prides itself on its varied electives, including science, music, drama and athletics.

The "We the People" advanced senior government class has won the state competition three years in a row, giving it national recognition.

The school has also shown marked improvement in achieving success in the Advanced Placement Examinations.

This special accomplishment caused Incline High School to be named as one of the top high schools in America, according to Jay Matthews of Newsweek Magazine.

The number of AP courses offered increased from nine to 11 while the average number of exams per student increased from 1.94 to 2.55, which is well above the state average of 1.85.

Advanced Placement classes include English, Human Geography, Calculus and U.S. History.

Sierra Nevada College was founded in 1969 and is a four-year private liberal arts college. SNC's mission is unique in that it encourages entrepreneurship across all disciplines and stresses a commitment to lifelong learning.

The quality of the faculty is recognized as the college's greatest asset, and the depth of student-faculty interaction and collaboration is unparalleled.

Programs offered include fine arts, humanities and social sciences.
