Incline Village General Improvement District
In 1961 the Washoe County Board of Commissioners charted a unique form of city government in Incline Village.

The Incline Village General Improvement District , or IVGID as it is familiarly known, is charged with the task of managing the village’s recreational facilities as well as water and sewer services—but staff understands the district is charged with a lot more than that.

“IVGID, through its five elected officials, is the community’s connection between the state legislature, Washoe County and the federal government,” said IVGID general manager Bill Horn.

IVGID is the largest land owner in Incline Village/Crystal Bay and controls the town’s three beaches, the village recreation center, the 18-hole Championship and Mountain Golf Courses and Diamond Peak Ski Resort.

For less than $600 a year, Incline residents have access to all the district’s recreational facilities said Horn.

Most recently the district began researching possible locations around the village to construct workforce housing and proposed the community purchase of five acres of land near Incline Lake, where a new Nordic ski resort could be built.

The district has also partnered with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to begin visioning work this year that will lay out land use planning regulations as well as mull socioeconomic issues in the basin for the next 20 years.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District was formed in 1959 and watches over the homes, businesses and wildland areas in the village, while engaging in preventative measures like defensible space programs.

Defensible space has been a community and district effort that has resulted in a thinned, more fire-safe community.

With three fire stations, the fire district offers a wide spectrum of services, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, fuels management, community education and safety, fire prevention and rescue services.

Each of these programs has grown over the years according to the needs of the community. The fire fuels management program not only partners with several governmental agencies, but now collaborates with newly established fire safe councils and the Neighbors for Defensible Space community interest-based groups.

The programs are growing and the fire district constructed a new facility to further enhance the service and safety equipment it maintained at the old building.
