Seasons will come and go – summer beach days fade into brisk fall nights. Then snow sticks and melts away as spring blooms around the basin.
Just like the seasons, visitors come and go. And what is a vacation without souvenirs?
While snow globes and T-shirts can be found almost anywhere in Incline, there is a whole lot more in the realm of keepsakes for folks to take home.
Located in the Christmas Tree Village, the Tahoe Store Emporium is described by owners as “a place where you will find exactly what you’re looking for, and even a few items you weren’t.”
“You can get everything you need here,” said store owner Rick Fuller. “People come from all over the country to buy items here because they don’t see the same items where they are from.”
The store carries more than 5,500 candles, Tahoe trinkets, festive party favors, kitchen gadgets and educational toys that “make kids think” Fuller said.
Seasons owner Jonathan Nichols, whose store is in the Raley’s Incline Center, said Tahoe is “not only about bears or pine trees”—that is why he fills his store with expressive furnishings and gifts people “love to take home.”
As you enter the store, you’re greeted by gems, gold, silver and beaded handcrafted jewelry made by local jeweler Nicholas Walker.
While many stores in Incline offer a contemporary feel, there are plenty of mountain town shops, selling more “rustic” items.
As you drive by the California/Nevada state line, it is impossible not to notice the wooden bears smiling outside The Bear’s Den, where owner and master carver John Hill creates wooden bears of all shaped and sizes.
As a signature, “all bears must have a smile on their face,” Hill said.
But big friendly bears are not all you will find. Custom Sierra Nevada wildlife critters dwell within the store, but don’t worry, the stuffed and handcrafted wooden animals won’t bite, they’ll just look nice in your home.
For those outdoor adven-tourists, Porter’s Ski and Sport, 855 Tahoe Blvd., or The Village Ski Loft, 800 Tahoe Blvd., are “recreational shops for all seasons.”
The stores feature seasonal clothing and equipment; beachwear in the summer and hiking products and snowshoes for the winter.
“We are truly an outdoor store whether it be winter, summer or the shoulder season,” owner of Village Ski Loft Mike Croft said. “We keep up with the latest and greatest equipment and retail.”
Village Ski Loft offers one-day or multiple-day bile rentals and repairs in the summer and is a full-service ski and snowboard rental and repair shop in the winter.
If simply shopping for necessities for the home or garden, Village Ace Hardware in the Raley’s Incline Center has an abundance of materials for your home; just a few doors down towards Raley’s is Village Square. Owner Kathie Maxwell’s concept is a “21st century general store” for folks to find stationery, books and gift items.
Incline offers a variety of shopping options for locals as well as tourists. From one-of-a-kind hand-crafted furniture and art pieces to designer couture, you’ll find a range of treasures here that you can’t find anywhere else.
