Seniors here will have better access to state and federal services, thanks to pair of recent county grants totaling $129,000.
The larger of the two grants, $91,000 from the Nevada Division for Aging Services, will bolster county senior services department salaries.
"That funding source is through the Older Americans Act, and that money is intended for the supporting caregivers," said senior services spokeswoman Debbie Enos.
The other $38,000 grant came from the US Department of Human Services for the senior law project, which provides county senior with free, age-specific legal advice.
"We focus on a number of issues such as people who are in default on their mortgages by getting the mortgage company to defer the obligation or rework the terms of the agreement so that the payments are more affordable," said county attorney Ernie Nielsen.
Nielsen said his office also provides counsel regarding reverse mortgages, rental issues and disability access.
Residents interested in the programs may contact the senior services office at (775) 328-2575.
