Incline Village’s local government and services
A breakdown of the government agencies and keys players who serve the North Shore
Print Comment
IVGID
Incline Village General Improvement District is the North Shore’s local government and is the oldest and largest general improvement district in Nevada. IVGID’s primary responsibilities are providing residents with sewer, water and trash services and also liaises on behalf of the community with the county and state governments.

However, IVGID also has substantial involvement with, and ownership of, local recreational opportunities through its three quasi-private beaches, two golf courses, recreation center, senior service’s program and Diamond Peak Ski Resort. Residents pay a $600 a year “recreation fee” that gives them either free or discounted access to these venues.

IVGID is directed by an elected, non-partisan board of trustees and is run by a small army of employees, headed by general manager Bill Horn. Its main offices are located at 893 Southwood Boulevard in
Incline Village.

NLTFPD
The North Shore’s other, and much-lauded, local government is its fire department, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District. With jurisdiction ranging from the Crystal Bay stateline, to the top of Mount Rose, to the State Park to the east. Besides putting structure and forest fires, the NLTFPD has an extensive fuels-reduction program to help reduce the risk of forest fire, conducts rescue operations and provides ambulance and EMS services to the village. It also runs countless citizen training programs throughout the year including.

The fire district is directed by an elected, non-partisan board and is managed by fire chief Mike Brown.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office
Incline Village and Crystal Bay are policed by deputies of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, which operates a substation at the corners of Highways 28 and 431 in Incline Village. Due to the village’s unusually high population for an unincorporated area, the substation has no equivalent elsewhere in the county.

The substation is headed by Capt. Steven Kelly and his five sergeants, has 17 additional deputies and houses the emergency dispatch office for Tahoe’s North Shore. The sheriff’s main office and detention facility are located in Reno, at 911 Parr Boulevard. Sheriff Mike Haley was elected to his first term of office last year.

Justice of the Peace Alan Tiras also performs wedding ceremonies and notary public services. More serious cases, including felonies, are generally handled in Reno. The court’s security is provided by the Incline Village/Crsytal Bay constable Joe Kubo, whose staff also serves orders on behalf of the court.

Additionally, the constable’s office transports prisoners to and from Reno, and can provide emergency transportation for citizens on a case-by-case basis. The constable is an elected office unique in within the county. The court is located at 865 Tahoe Boulevard.
