The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency was formed by the U.S. Congress in 1969 to oversee the environmental regulation of Lake Tahoe and its watershed. The bi-state organization, the first of its kind, regulates everything from building permits, to tree removal, to watercraft use, to erosion controls, to buoy and dock permits. It also coordinates regional planning efforts and is headquartered in Stateline, Nevada.
