The Incline Rotary Club, along with The Rotary Foundation, will be funding mosquito nets for pregnant mothers and nursing mothers in Ghana. Rotary members Bruce McNulty, Sue Welsch and Wend Schaefer in support of the effort.
On May 17, the Tahoe Incline Rotary Club of Incline Village received approval for a matching grant from The Rotary Foundation to provide chemically impregnated mosquito nets to expectant mothers and nursing mothers in the Volta River area of Ghana in Africa. The host partner in this project is Accra West in Ghana.
The total dollar amount of the project is approximately $16,000 with $6,780 coming from The Rotary Foundation and the rest from Tahoe Incline Rotary Club and Rotary district funds.
The nets will be purchased locally in Ghana as part of a malaria prevention program.
Rotarian Bruce McNulty will travel to Ghana to participate in the distribution of the mosquito nets.
The project was initiated by Sue Welsch, president of Tahoe Incline Rotary, during her recent trip to Ghana where she participated in polio immunizations.
