Sky Industries has operated out of Crystal Bay since 2001 as a business specializing in computer products. This year owner Sky McKinney decided that it was time to take it a step further and include a complete line of home theater products including the best name brand receivers, projectors, screens, and anything else needed for the optimum experience in HD home theater. Sky Industries does all the work and offers products to fit the consumer's need regardless of experience or budget.

Sky McKinney answered a few questions for the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza about his business and its grand opening this weekend.

What is your previous background with this type of business? Is this your first business?

Sky Industries was started in Oakland, Calif. in 1998 and specialized in computer products.

We moved to the Tahoe area in 2001 and have been building a client base ever since. Home theater is a recent addition to the business model, but we have been consulting and doing pre-wiring for years.

We now offer a complete line of home theater products from Yamaha receivers, to Optoma projectors and screens, to home theater recliners.

Describe the services you offer.

Sky Industries will take care of all your home theater and/or computer needs. We will sit down with you and discuss your requirements.

Then we will design a system based on the space available; hire any contractors required; work with decorators if desired; and complete the work in a timely fashion and within the budget guidelines.

What gave you the idea for this business?

Recently I installed a theater room for my aunt in Southern California. I was surprised to see there was a business like mine every five miles. I figured now was the time to get started before the same thing happened here.

How long have you lived in the area? Why did you choose North Lake Tahoe for your business?

I first moved to the area when I was 8 years old and moved away to go to school. My wife was born here.

When we met each other again in the San Francisco Bay area, we decided to move back to the area to start a family.

Who does your business cater to most?

Sky Industries doesn't want to exclude anyone. We have products that will meet everyone's budget.

If you are looking for a new surround sound receiver and want to install it yourself, we will be happy to help you out. If you are looking for the ultimate in HD home theater, we can do that too.

If you want to buy your first computer we have that covered. If you are an experienced computer user and need something with a little more zip we have that too. If your business needs to replace an old tired server and wants an experienced professional to do the migration, then you've come to the right place.

Do you have goals for growth or expansion?

Doesn't every new business owner? We are going to start small and personal and grow as we need to.

Our biggest asset is the personal touch. It is easy to get frustrated and lost in the big box stores.

Is there anything to add?

Our grand opening is this weekend starting Friday. Our doors will be open all weekend starting at 9 a.m. I encourage everyone to stop by, even if they are not in the market, to see the difference HD can make.
