The Stack estate, the boyhood home of actor Robert Stack, is for sale on Tahoes East Shore.
Built in the 1920s, the private estate is being listed for $39 million with Dickson Realty and sits on 12 acres featuring 1,787 feet of lake frontage.
Situated on an East Shore peninsula, the estate features a private pier and a boathouse. The home also has a rich history connected to the glamour of Hollywood.
James L. Stack Sr., the highly successful advertising executive behind the Quaker Oats brand, originally purchased the home in 1928.
Victor Lockhart, a Realtor with Dickson, said the property has remained in the Stack family since then. Lockhart was named the exclusive agent for the sale of the property by the Whittier Trust Company in Reno.
James L. Stacks sons, Jim and Robert Stack, grew up participating in Lake Tahoe water sports including competitively racing their speedboat, Lucky Strike II.
Robert Stack went on to become an actor in Hollywood, starring as Elliot Ness in the television series The Untouchables and also roles in films such as Caddyshack II and Airplane. His older brother, Jim, also was linked to Hollywood, marrying actress Wanda Hendrix, with whom he honeymooned at the Tahoe home.
Not only is the land a geographic gem, but it also embodies a rich history of Hollywood glamour, Lockhart said. It is one of the most spectacular properties on all of Lake Tahoe with an expansive lake front and numerous options for expanding on the estate.
A Realtor with Dickson said the home has already seen significant interest, particularly because it is a lake-front property.
Lake-front properties are always good investments, but at Lake Tahoe they are incredible, Lockhart said. On the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, only 30 percent of lake-front property is privately owned, so this is a rare opportunity for potential buyers.
