Diamond Peak Ski Resort is celebrating National Safety Awareness Week Jan. 19-25, and is asking for kids to join this special contest. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders are welcome to participate. Please pick up a poster template at the Diamond Peak Loft Bar. All posters will be displayed in the base lodge and the winner will receive a Diamond Peak season pass. The winning posters will in turn be submitted in a National NSAA contest.
The criteria for the poster contest include:
You must be 8 to 12 years of age to enter
Winners will be selected in two categories including best overall safety message and most creative design. Selection will be based on the poster's connection to safety, visual impact and originality.

Local National Winter Trails Day events take place on Saturday
The 13th annual Winter Trails event offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing and/ or cross-country skiing free at more than 100 locations in 25 states and four Canadian provinces. Through these easy-to-learn activities, participants can have fun and discover the health and fitness benefits of snow sports.
Winter Trails is presented through a partnership among SnowSports Industries America, the nonprofit member-owned trade association of snow and winter sports companies, including American Hiking Society, a recreation-based conservation organization that promotes and protects foot trails and the hiking experience, and Cross-Country Ski Areas Association, a national organization representing Nordic Centers across North America.

Tahoe Rim Trail 2008 snowshoe programs begin Saturday
Join the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for its third year of Winter Trails snowshoe programs. The snowshoe events are great for everyone to try snow sports and to discover the great fitness and social benefits with the easy-to-learn winter sport of snowshoeing.
All snowshoe programs are accompanied with TRTA staff guides and TRTA volunteer guides, and they are free.
The 2008 Winter Trails snowshoe program kicks off on Saturday with National Winter Trails Day. It will take place at Tahoe Meadows, and TRTA will partner with Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol for a fun-filled day of snowshoeing and an educational demo on winter safety.

Demo Day at Alpine Meadows
rescheduled again, now Feb. 3
Alpenglow Sports has partnered with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort to provide a free telemark and alpine touring demo event for residents of the Lake Tahoe Basin and beyond. The event will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 3 at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. The goal of the event is to provide a forum to perpetuate the passion and excitement surrounding telemark and alpine touring skiing in the Tahoe area.
All major sales representatives will be on hand with their affiliated demo fleets. Participating companies include K2, Black Diamond, G3, Atomic, Rossignol, Scarpa, Garmont, Dynafit and Karhu.
Demos are free, but a drivers license and credit card are required for a deposit. A free raffle for demo participants will take place at Alpenglow in Tahoe City after the event.
