Theres a new CEO in town.
Peter A. Basler has been appointed chief executive officer of the Incline Village Community Hospital, officially taking over from Fred Pritchard, who retired on Jan. 1.
Basler said the CEO position was offered to him by Pritchard, an old friend, in 2006 when he was planning his retirement.
Fred called me and told me the position would be open when he retired and said he thought Id make a good fit. So we took it before the Tahoe Forest Hospital District Board and they thought it was a good idea, Basler said.
Basler moved to Incline Village in early 2007 and took the job of executive director of the Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance, which is based in Truckee and owned by the hospital.
In addition to assuming the role of CEO of the Incline Village hospital, Basler will continue his responsibilities at the Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance, including supervision of multi-specialty clinics and occupational health.
Id like to use my contacts at that position to help people out here in Incline. hope fully we can get some of the specialists from the Health and Sports Performance Center to come out to Incline maybe once every other week so people dont have to drive off the mountain for medical care, Basler said.
He said the Incline hospital is embarking on a fund-raising drive to raise $5 million for improvements.
Wed like to update the emergency room to get it technologically up to speed, Basler said. That will be our first priority. After that well look to update the second floor of the hospital and expand our services.
Basler said an updated emergency room could service more people who become injured at local recreation areas instead sending them via CareFlight to Reno.
He said he was drawn to the Incline area for the natural beauty.
I think I came here for the same reason everyone does, Basler said. The beauty of the lakes and the mountains and the enjoyment of the outdoors.
Prior to joining the Tahoe Forest Hospital System, Basler spent the past 11 years as the chief operations officer of Wesley Woods Center of Emory and Emorys Center for Rehabilitation Medicine and associate administrator of Emory hospitals.
Basler is a retired U.S. Army Medical Service Lt. Col. with more than 35 years of health care administration. Past positions include CEO of Kahuku community hospital in Hawaii, CIO of Wesley Woods Inc., owner of Uniformed Dental Services and regional vice president for Health Network Ventures. Basler obtained a baccalaureate in business administration from Murray State University in 1972 and a masters in health care Administration from Baylor University in 1983, both with honors.
