Seasons has been an Incline Village store for many years. After Alan Shaw and Jonathan Nichols bought the store two years ago, changes began for the specialty home store.
This week, Seasons "bloomed" with the addition of florist services. Nichols and Shaw presented some of their reasons and plans for the Bonanza's Business Profile.
What have you done with Seasons since you purchased it two years ago?
We took a full year to carefully study the clientele and revamp the store's offerings. Seasons now carries well-regarded brands, such as Mariposa Brillante sandcast aluminum serveware, Riedel wine glassware, Enlightened candles and Caspari printed napkins, as well as jewelry and art created by local artists.
"We saw a need for a reasonably priced specialty home store here in Incline," said Shaw. "And, with Jonathan's talent for finding and coordinating beautiful home accessories and gift items, we felt the community could benefit from a store with an eye on design and budget."
How do you choose what to sell in your store?
Nichols spends a good deal of time shopping for new items and fresh ideas for the store.
He prides himself on offering high-quality items at reasonable prices and carries lines from many small companies and women-owned companies. He's coined the tagline "We only look expensive," to help customers understand that Seasons offers a range of items for any budget, with many gifts under $50. The store also offer gift certificates and free gift wrapping.
When did you add the florist services?
Seasons added the floral part of its business on Tuesday, and Nichols reports the florists are already busy. Stroll to the back of the store to find refrigerators full of floral arrangements and fresh-cut flowers.
Why did you add florist services?
"Adding flowers was a natural extension of the lines of merchandise we carry," said Nichols. "As a full-service florist, we can help both locals and visitors with any special occasion. Or, if it's time for a little change in the look of their home, a new lamp or home accessory can help to make that dramatic difference."
Nichols added that he wanted fresh flowers in the store. It was an extension of volunteer work he has been doing with Incline charitable events. For several different events, Nichols has provided the flowers for the fundraiser. Also, Nichols just believes that Incline Village could use a second florist.
Who creates your floral designs?
Local floral designer, Tiffany Howe, brings her unique talent to Seasons. She and the floral staff, including florist Lynnie Groundwater, will add a touch of elegance to any occasion, including weddings and special events. And, Seasons is taking special care of locals by offering free delivery to Incline Village, Crystal Bay and Kings Beach for orders of more than $50.
Besides your help with charitable events, how else do you contribute to the community?
We are committed to the local community. For two years, Nichols has taken 10 percent of his November and December sales at Seasons to purchase items for Toys for Tots.
He serves on the board of Children's Cabinet and is actively involved in other local nonprofit organizations, lending a hand at decorating special events and offering nonprofit organizations and churches discounts on flowers and accessories.
Shaw also owns FileWorks, a software company based in Incline Village.
Do you have any other unique services?
Seasons also offers a gift registry for any occasion and is working on a Web site that will offer sales over the Internet. It won't be long before Seasons is more than just a locally-known treasure.
Where are you located and what are your hours?
Seasons is located at 930 Tahoe Boulevard, Suite 103 in the Raley's Center next to Azzara's. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The phone number is (775) 833-3123.
"Business Profile" is a regular feature that looks at local businesses in the Incline Village area. The Bonanza does not endorse this or any other business. If you would like your business to be profiled, please call the Bonanza at (775) 831-4666.
