On the eve of April, local citizens involved in the planning stages of the second annual Red, White and Tahoe Blue celebration continue to plan for the early-July event.

Although the evening plans and schedule are not finalized, Tom Masterson, chairman of the event's fireworks committee plans said he plans to bring forward a schedule that will exceed last year's event, according to a press release about the event.

Those expectations start with a free concert on the beach by the band Shameus.

"Shameus performed last year to excellent reviews and has agreed to perform again this year on the Incline Beach Stage," Masterson said in the release.

As for the bright light effects, Masterson said this year's fireworks will once again be launched from barges just off the Incline/Ski Beaches. However, this year, Masterson is hoping for some added musical inspiration.

Masterson said he and other planners are in final negotiations with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra to perform before and during the fireworks display.

If the orchestra performs, the concert will be on the Village Green stage, and there also is a "Hawaiian Luau Party" planned before the concert. It will include food, beverages and VIP seating for the Reno Philharmonic Concert and Fireworks Display.

"The 2008 'Evening on the Green' will be a world class event that will be the pride of Incline Village and the envy of the world, so mark you calendars and plan on attending," Masterson said.

This year's Red, White and Tahoe Blue event is scheduled for July 2-4.

Fundraising help needed

Those events which were successful last year will be returning with some new and expanded twists. The parade size will be increased with the addition of at least one band, the USO show extended to also include local talent as well as the Andrew Sisters Revisited, and food venues will be at the events. The Rubber Ducky Race will have more quackers and a duck calling contest. Wine and Cheese will have more vintners.

However, the most pressing need of Red, White and Tahoe Blue is funding, organizers said. The ultimate goal of the organization is to provide substantial funding for the six collaborators of the event, according to Tom Bruno, president of Red, White and Tahoe Blue. He emphasizes that there is a multitude of events which will be free to the public such as nightly entertainment and the viewing of the rubber duck race and the fireworks. Bruno is asking the public to consider all of the moments of fantastic memories being realized and to consider donating at least $100 per family. Contributions may be made out to: Red, White and Tahoe Blue, and sent to P.O. Box 3149, Incline Village, NV 89450. RWTB appreciates the monetary support of a true American tradition - a grand celebration of our nation's birth.
