The season results are in, and many of the area children are among the leaders.
The Tahoe League Race Series completed the 2008 season a few weekends ago with a meet at Sugar Bowl. The series is a developmental alpine ski race league for athletes from age 7 to 17. The league consists of approximately 14 teams representing ski areas and private clubs in the Lake Tahoe and California vicinity, including the Diamond Peak Ski Team.
Teams practice throughout the winter and six races are conducted each season. In each race, athletes compete against others in their age and gender group. During the season, points are awarded for placement in each race.
The League provides an opportunity for young skiers to have fun and compete in quality competition while learning racing skills. Awards are given to the top 15 skiers in each category, and the top three receive trophies.
Many area children finished in the top 10, and for a few young racers, top two was the name of the race.
Incline resident Annika Hansen, skiing for the Squaw Valley Ski team, finished the series with a first-place finish in the 9-10 girls division. She had 87 total points for the season, 10 more than the second-place finisher in the category, another Incline native, Sami Lampe, who skis for Diamond Peak.
