Eight Carson City high school students are suspected of plotting a “major disturbance” at the high school, a law enforcement official said this morning.

Carson City Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Steve Schuette said police were alerted to the suspected plot on Wednesday night by an anonymous source.

Last night officers looked into the allegations, and gathered further information that the students involved were going to get together this morning at the high school to plot the disturbance which is thought to possibly have included smoke bombs, fire crackers and ink bombs. It's not known when the alleged evident was to take place.

“Had this occurred — it would have sounded like gunfire— and come in to us as an ‘active shooter’ and the danger to the student body would have been huge,” said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

There is no indication at this time that the group was planning violence on other students, said Furlong. “I understand the school district is taking action on the students and the Sheriff’s Department is working with the district attorney to discuss criminal charges,” he said.
