Donate food at the mailbox
Project MANA (Making Adequate Nutrition Accessible), the local hunger relief organization, is participating in the annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive on Saturday. National Association of Letter Carriers says it is the largest one-day nationwide food drive. The letter carriers will pick up food donations placed by a mailbox. Food donations can also be left at the Post Office. Project MANA executive director George LeBard said the goal this year is 3,000 pounds of donations. For more information, call Project MANA at (775) 298-0008.

Additionally participants will learn techniques for disseminating these low impact skills. The course will be held in the backcountry giving participants a chance not only to learn, but to live the ethic as well. The course is $65 which includes a one year membership to LNT non profit, certification, educational materials, and cool outdoor products, plus two meals. There will an indoor and outdoor class setting, hiking, and camping out one night. Space is limited so register early. Please contact Allison at the Tahoe Rim Trail at Allisonb@tahoerimtrail.org or call (775) 298-0238 to register and obtain information.
Become a trail ambassador
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is looking for new trail ambassadors and hike leaders for the 2008 summer season. This is a great volunteer opportunity for active people who want to get outside and involved with the Tahoe Rim Trail. Both of these programs require attending a training May 31 to become certified trail ambassadors or hike leaders. CPR and first aid training will also be offered for those not already certified on Sunday, June 1. The hike leader program teaches and trains volunteers how to lead guided hikes on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Hike leaders promote trail etiquette, leave no trace ethics, and responsible use of the trail. The ambassador program promotes safe, responsible and enjoyable use of the Tahoe Rim Trail system. Ambassadors inform, assist and educate hikers, bikers, and equestrians; maintain and encourage proper trail etiquette; record trail use statistics; provide or call for mechanical assistance, if needed; perform some trail maintenance, help in emergency situations, and have a good time on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Hike leader and trail ambassador training will be held at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-profit Center, 948 Incline Way. The cost for the training is $20 which will include lunch and CPR and first aid certification through the American Red Cross. For more information, contact Allison Becker at (775) 298-0238.
