Xstream Clean hopes to increase attendance

This year’s Xstream Clean could collect more trash and hold a bigger celebration at the end of the day, said organizer Chris Laramore, who is also the director of Incline After-School Organization.
Xstream Clean aims to beautify Incline Village by organizing children and adults to pick up trash. Last year about 1,000 people picked up 4.25 tons of litter, Laramore said. This year he’s hoping to increase that to 4.5 tons.
“It shows us that if a lot of people do a little, a lot can be accomplished,” Laramore said. “It’s mind-blowing to see the piles of litter in that short period of time.”
This year’s Xstream Clean will be held Saturday, June 7, and will begin at 11 a.m. Participants will have until 1 p.m. to drop off the litter at a Dumpster provided by Empire Waste Systems.
Afterwards, participants are invited to a free picnic lunch donated by Raley’s, music, dance, carnival and contests.
The carnival will include food, sponsored by the Incline Village General Improvement District, offering items such as ribs, corn on the cob or cotton candy. The carnival will also have amusements such as a climbing wall, dunk tank, target practice, dodgeball and a tournament.
There will also be live music and entertainment, including an open mic where locals can strut their stuff.
This is the fourth year Xstream Clean will make an effort to clean up Incline Village and it will be sponsored by Intero Realty this year.
The meeting point will be at the Incline Middle School parking lot, where Dumpsters will be waiting for trash deposits.
“It’s a great way to give a ‘spring cleaning’ to Incline Village’s streets and streams, and help Incline Village sparkle for all of our summer visitors,” said Brad Deeds, a long-time event participant. “Clean streams mean a cleaner and clearer Lake Tahoe, and spotless streets are good for tourism and our local economy. It’s also a great opportunity to teach our children to be good stewards of our environment.”
