Auxiliary helps in interagency training session
Local members from the U.S. Coast Guard, working with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Coast Guard Auxiliary, conducted an Interagency Law Enforcement training exercise on April 22 on Lake Tahoe.

The passenger vessel MS Dixie II served as a training platform for the Coast Guard’s Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 from San Francisco to practice personnel deployment and boarding tactics from 23-foot Over the Horizon boats.

The exercise also involved a 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe, and Marine 9, provided by the Washoe County Sheriffs Office’s Incline Substation. Marine 9 is a 24-foot Patrol and Rescue vessel stationed in Incline Village.

The Sierra Division of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary provided volunteers to serve as “passengers” on the MS Dixie II for the exercise. Incline Village resident and Coast Guard Auxiliary Division Captain Dee Dee Kincade led the volunteers on the MS Dixie II. Also assisting as volunteers from Crystal Bay and Incline Village were Bruce McIntyre and Pat Walter.

The team of volunteers was rounded out with Coast Guard Auxiliary members from Truckee, Sparks and Reno. The Coast Guard Auxiliary were fundamental in assisting the MSST SF boarding team’s training exercise of securing the vessel.

Washoe County Sheriffs Office Patrol Boat Marine 9 crew was Deputy Ben Coffindaffer, Incline Marine Auxiliary members Jack Leth, Ed Leckey and Tom Henderson, all from Incline Village. Marine 9 provided perimeter security and performed as a safety vessel during the training exercise.

Both the Coast Guard Auxiliary (http://northtahoecgaux.org) and WCSO Incline Marine Auxiliary (http://www.marine9.org/) are looking for new volunteer members. Those interested, please contact Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe for the Coast Guard Auxiliary or the Incline Substation for the Incline Marine Auxiliary.
