Keeping Mother’s Day all day long with fresh flowers

Daughter wins essay contest and mom gets flowers all year
For the next year Jean Thoms will have fresh flowers in her home, and it’s all thanks to her daughter Lindsey, 13, thinking she’s the best mom ever.

In May, Lindsey submitted an essay to the “My Mom is Amazing! Mother’s Day Contest” sponsored by Seasons shop in Incline Village.

Lindsey wrote a one-page essay describing how her mother supports her and loves her and helps her make her dreams come true.

“I would have been happy to just give her the essay as a Mother’s Day present,” Lindsey said.

Instead, Lindsey won and now her mom gets a fresh $50 bouquet each month in an earth-tone scheme to match her home.

“I am so excited,” Jean said. “I love flowers, but it’s not something you normally buy for yourself.”

Floral manager Tiffany Howe said Lindsey’s essay won because it “defined what a mother is.”

“Moms do everything,” Howe said.

Here’s Lindsey’s winning response:
What would I do without someone to call mom? How would I go through a day without the love my mom shows me in every action she does? I don’t know; that is my simple answer to that question. My mom is amazing and this is why.
None of us can drive until we turn sixteen, so who gets us where we want to go? I know that my mom is the one that is always driving me to places I need to be and more. I am always going horseback riding or to singing lessons after-school and my mom is the only transportation I have.

That is definitely not the only reason I love my mom. My mom is a beautiful woman from the inside out. She has a wonderful personality that radiates from every pore on her body. She is an incredibly self-less person, she is always giving to those in need; whether it is across the country, the world, or just the community, my mom is a donator. What does she donate? Her love of the human race and her want to help others. She is also a self-starter, she has motivated herself to do many things, and she motivates us through any hard times we may have.

Another thing contained in that single body is love, every ounce of my mom is filled with love. A wise person once told me that love is infinite, and that wise person was my mother. I have seen a great deal of love in my life, and my mom accounts for a good portion of it. Whenever I am feeling down, I can always talk to my mom to feel better.

My mom is amazing, and this is why. Her life accomplishments reach the sky. She takes care of me and will love me until she says goodbye. I love my mom and she loves me. A mom is your best friend and never your worst enemy.
