After four decades of educating and developing generations of Incline Village students, Incline High School will celebrate its anniversary this evening. It’s an event many are coming from far and wide to attend.
During the past months the guest list has grown exponentially. From 100 to 200 to nearly 500 people now, the list grew so big IHS principal John Clark said the event needed to move from The Chateau to the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe.
“It was a shock to us,” Clark said, of the amount of alumni signing up for the event. “It’s amazing to see the outpouring of support for this event; alumni are coming in from all across the country.”
Clark said that as the guest list rose, it became apparent the numbers would outpace capacity at The Chateau when the guest list surpassed 300.
The celebration will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. today at the Hyatt in the Regency Ballroom.
“We happened to have space for the event and are very pleased that we could help out to host it,” said Mark Pardue, general manager at the Hyatt.
Clark said every principal from the school’s present and past will be in attendance, including Carl Shaff, who presided over the school at its opening in 1968.
“This will be a great get together for people to visit with each other and talk about their favorite experiences from Incline High School,” Clark said.
He said he’s been contacted by various graduating classes from Incline’s past who expressed interest in touring the school and using the facilities for various activities. “It will be a great opportunity for the students to see a bit of the past of the school,” Clark said. “The alumni will be able to talk about some of their life experiences, it should be very interesting.”
On Saturday, May 10, there will be a dinner event called “The Targe Tribute Tasting Trail,” named for the school’s yearbook, the Targe.
The event, hosted across Incline, will take alumni to various dining and drinking establishments with members of their class and those classes close to theirs. Limousines will be chartered to show alumni around town, and alumni can book them in advance for $25.
