Oh, so many times when one is asked, “Who has been your role model?” the answer comes back without hesitation, “My mother.” But often that mother is not aware of her overwhelming influence. “I Love You, Mom! A Celebration to Our Mothers and Their Gifts to Us” edited by Diane Clehane (a journalist and author who has reported on the lives of some of the world’s most intriguing people for magazines, in books and on television) has compiled an inspiring and endearing set of essays written by 46 well-known, well-respected personalities, such as Larry King, Deborah Roberts, Pat Schroeder, Harry Smith, Christine Todd Whitman, and Howie Mandel. In their writings we feel the gratitude and love for their mother.Depending on the individual, there is great awe and appreciation for her support, caring, idiosyncrasies, humor, confidence, hard work, advice, courage, sacrifices, listening skills, and especially for her love.

Kelly Ripa, who writes the forward to the book, also has written a very tender essay to her mom. She also has made a contribution in the name of each of the contributors to this book to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a charity she strongly supports.

This book would make a lovely gift to give a Mother of any age. And at the back of the book are blank pages in which you can write your own personal tribute and thank you to your own mother.

I also want to recommend a very clever book, “The Fun Book for Moms: 102 Ways to Celebrate Family” by Melina Genoas Bellows. She began to write the book, as she states in her introduction, when “ my days seemed like a marathon disaster movie starring me racing around after my kamakaze toddler to prevent him from hurling himself from high places, swallowing small objects, and/or gleefully electrocuting himself. My nights were a protracted exercise in sleep deprivation, with Mackenzie getting up every two hours and screaming from acid reflux. I needed fun! Fast!” The suggestions are fun, creative and often free but create memories, tradition, and closeness for all.
