Judges from across the state of Nevada will gather in Incline Village next week for the 2008 Nevada Judicial Leadership Summit.

Attendance at the summit, hosted by the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, will include many judges at all state levels from justice courts, municipal courts and the state Supreme Court.

The Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts is the host for the event, which is held every four years.

The Incline Village Justice Court is also a host and Judge Alan Tiras said he is excited for the summit.

“This will be the first one I’ve gone to and I’m glad Incline Village can host it, this is our first time ever hosting the event,” Tiras said.

The summit is scheduled to run from Tuesday through Friday, and Tiras said it will feature lectures, discussions and receptions.

In all, 200 people will be in attendance, including the judges and their spouses, Tiras said.

Michael Bell, manager of judicial education for the Administrative Office of the Courts, said the summit serves as a valuable educational tool for the judges who attend.
“It helps the judges to step back and reflect on their roles as judges ... they get to talk about the issues they all face in Nevada and can bounce ideas off one another,” Bell said.

He said there will be classes dealing with demographic trends in Nevada, which will help the judges to understand what the courtrooms of the future will look like.“This is a real opportunity for the judges to relax, sit back and look at how they fit in with the judicial system,” Bell said.
