Serrano
Amie Serrano, a senior at Incline High School, was one of 1,900 student council leaders and student activity advisers who recently attended the 72nd Annual National Association of Student Councils National Conference, June 25-28 at Northwest High School in Justin, Texas.
NASC, administered by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, offers leadership training at its conferences, focusing on turning student leaders into lifelong leaders.
“The dedicated students attending the NASC Conference learn how they can become more effective leaders in their schools and community,” said Dr. Gerald N. Tirozzi, executive director. “I commend these enthusiastic young people on their willingness to take on leadership roles and make a difference.”
Serrano was trained in basic and advanced leadership, communication skills, and how to deal with diversity. She participated in discussions on issues relevant to today’s youth as well as an idea exchange with other leaders from across the country.
Delegates also took part in an extra special national presidential mock election to coincide with this year’s exciting race for president.
For the first time at an NASC National Conference, all student delegates participated in CPR training becoming CPR certified so that if the need arises, they can use their training back home in their communities, a press release said.
“These young leaders are the heads of their student councils, bands, student newspapers, debate teams and other co-curricular activities,” said Rocco Marano, director of NASC. “This conference will sharpen their leadership abilities and teach them skills that will help them be a greater support to their peers and the community.”
While at Incline High School, Serrano has been active in student government, JROTC and cheerleading. She has also been involved in several service projects.
Serrano was recently elected Nevada NASC vice president and Incline High School’s student body president for the 2008-09 school year.
