Fire near Yosemite causes smokey Sunday morning in the Tahoe Basin



Winds shifted overnight and brought smoke from the fire near the entrance of Yosemite National Park in Midpines, Calif. to the Tahoe Basin. The Telegraph fire has been growing because of the steep rugged terain and the amount of fuel there is to burn,

About 170 homes have been evacuated and 2,000 are threatened near the entrance to Yosemite and CALfire reports the fire has grown to over 16,000 acres and is 0 percent contained at this time. The fire is raging through an area that has not burned in 100 years. High temperatures and low humidity are also hindering efforts to fight this fast-moving fire.

National Guard helicopters equipped with water tanks are being brought out to help contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire has been reported to be someone target shooting in the Midpines, Calif area. MIdpines is located approximately 120 miles due south of Lake Tahoe in central California.
