Each year about 25 percent of students entering the Incline Elementary School dont come with the school supplies they need.
So, members of both of Incline Villages Rotary clubs are joining forces to make sure no student comes to class without pencils, pens, crayons or other needed supplies.
Barbara Richard, a member of the Tahoe-Incline Rotary Club of Incline, said an estimation from teachers at the Incline Elementary School show about a quarter of students dont come to class on day one with supplies.
To remedy this, Richards club and the Rotary Club of Incline pitched in $750 donations each, which should cover the tab for supplies, Richard said.
After I did the calculations for the supplies, the price comes out about perfectly to $1,500, Richard said.
Kathleen Watty, IES principal, did not immediately return calls or e-mails from the Bonanza Tuesday.
She said the money and collected supplies will go to teachers at IES to distribute among their classes. Supplies include writing utensils, scissors, calculators for some older students, rulers and more.
We want to make sure all the supplies are given out in a very sensitive manner and that each student has what they need for the school year, Richard said. Its great that both clubs are collaborating because we each care about kids and education in the community.
Richard said the clubs also hope to collect supplies for the Homework Help Club, an after-school tutoring program which gives students an extra leg up on assignments if they need it.
In order to help out this club and replenish any supplies that are low at the school in general, Richard said the clubs will be placing receptacles to collect school supplies at area businesses.
Wed appreciate any help we could get from the community, Richard said.
She said receptacles will be placed at Rainbow Printing on 907 Tahoe Blvd., who is assisting the supply drive, at the Incline Village Public Library at 845 Alder Ave. and at Village Square Family in the Raleys shopping center starting today.
