Sierra Nevada College will host a lecture by famed Egyptian archaeologist and author Zahi Hawass Saturday at the Hyatt Ballroom.
Hawass, a Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt is considered a leading world authority on the ancient Nile kingdom and excavated the Golden Mummies.
He will be discussing monuments and antiquities of Egypt, including the famous pyramids and Sphinx, information about sites in Egypt, conservation and management of the Giza Plateau and the excavation of the Golden Mummies, as well as other topics.
Hawass 4 p.m. lecture, which has been sold out for weeks, is another installment in the yearly Siebens-Binz Tahoe Forum.
The lecture will be preceded by a book signing from 3 to 4 p.m., and Hawass book Secrets from the Sand: My search for Egypts Past is available at SNCs Prim library and will be available Saturday at the Hyatt before the lecture.
Hawass presence was arranged by friend and SNC Trustee Nancy Siebens-Binz, who works each year to bring in guest speakers for the Siebens-Binz forum.
