The following are biographies of the four candidates running for three open seats on the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Board of Directors. Each candidate submitted his biography.

Wayne Fischer

Occupation: I retired after 33 years of employment. I worked as a hardware engineer, as a software programmer, as a project manager, as director of marketing and as company liaison to the embedded computer trade association. I also chaired and participated in the writing of many computer standards. I lived in New Jersey for eight years and Campbell, Calif. (San Jose, Calif.) for 25 years.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1967 and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from New York University in 1971.

Years lived in Incline Village/Crystal Bay: Full-time resident for nine years.

Past/current government experience: North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Board Member from 2005 to 2008 and Chair of the Board in 2008. Board member, webmaster and e-mail moderator of the Village League (the Property Tax Revolt effort) from inception to present (six years).

Community activities with which you are/have been involved in: Member of the Nevada Fire Safe Council for five years. One of six Lake Tahoe non-government citizens on the Public Lands and Waterways Committee of the 2007 Lake Tahoe Vision 20-year plan.

Family: Widowed after 38 years of marriage. Sally died from cancer two years ago. Two married boys in their mid to late 30s and no grandchildren yet. Son Paul works for Yahoo in Silicon Valley and Scott is a Law Enforcement Officer for the National Park Service and is presently working at the Mesa Verde NP in Colorado.

Chris Plastiras

Occupation: Realtor, owner, Lakeshore Realty

Education: Two years in college.

Years lived in Incline Village/ Crystal Bay: 35 years

Past/ current governmental experience: North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Board Member for eight years.

Community activities with which you are/have been involved: Every 15 Minutes, Incline Star Follies.

Family: Wife Patti, daughters Amber and Michelle.

Dale E. Smith

Occupation: Architect

Education: Bachelor of Arts, architecture — University of California, Berkeley

Years lived in Incline Village/Crystal Bay: 30

Past/current governmental experience: Current Director of North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.

Community activities with which you are/have been involved: Incline Skate Park; Country Club Centre Home Owners Association, past president; Bears in the Woods, University of California Alumni Association Chapter, past president; Incline Star Follies; Community Stadium 2009 Committee; CYMBAL, membership chair; and Diamond Peak Ski Foundation, past head gatekeeper.

Family: Married, Emily A. Smith, M.D.; two daughters attending Incline High School.

Paul Zahler

Occupation: Real estate developer/general contractor

Education: Some college

Years in Incline: 15

Past/current Government experience: Six years Incline Village/Crystal Bay Citizens Advisory Board, four years North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Board of Directors.

Community Activities: Chateau Committee, Bond for Chateau Committee, Recreation Facility Committee, Incline Vision Committee, sponsor of local events and teams.
