In a world where everyone seems to be searching for the best way to use renewable energy, Incline Village resident Vince Scott said he thinks the answer is right in front of us.

Or maybe a few feet shorter than us, actually.

“Our children and youth dictate the future when it comes to renewable energy,” Scott said. “They are the most valuable renewable energy resource we have.”

It’s because of this motto that Scott, president of Scott Companies and co-owner of Intero Real Estate Services in Incline Village, and his partners at Intero Incline (Alan Summers and Ryan and Cydney Mitchell) decided to become a diamond sponsor of this year’s Sink ‘Em and Hold ‘Em Golf and Poker Tournament, which takes place Thursday at the Championship Course in Incline.

Being a diamond sponsor means donating $10,000 to the event, of which 100 percent benefits the Children’s Cabinet of Incline Village and the North Lake Tahoe Community Health Care Auxiliary. The Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline also is a collaborator in the event and it will donate its time and proceeds to the CCIV and NLTCHCA.

“The Children’s Cabinet and hospital auxiliary are aligned with our goals and objectives at Intero in that we kind of focus on giving back to the environment and the community,” Scott said. “Even in this down economy we feel it’s very important to give back to the Children’s Cabinet and the hospital auxiliary.”

Thursday will mark the eighth year for the Sink ‘Em and Hold ‘Em event. As of Friday, the event has had 104 registered golfers, said Elyse Gut, a Children’s Cabinet board member.

“We’re hoping for 128; that’s the maximum we can have on the golf course for the event,” she said. “Our hope is to be sold out by Tuesday.”

Thursday’s fundraiser begins with a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m., with a cocktail reception, dinner and poker tournament immediately following in the Tahoe Grand Ballroom at The Chateau. Golf registration is $200 per person which includes green fees, golf cart, putting contest, poker tournament, reception and dinner. Guests and non-golfers are welcome to attend the reception, dinner and poker tournament for $75 per person.

The tournament includes prize-winning contests such as Hole In One, Putting Contest, Longest Drive and Beat the Pro. As for Friday, Gut said the professional to take part in this year’s event is yet to be determined.

Mulligan purchases will be available as well as raffle tickets for prizes. Prizes for the three finalists of the Texas Hold’Em Poker Shoot-out Tournament will also be awarded.

“It’s such a fun event,” Gut said. “And it’s for such a great cause, to give back to the Children’s Cabinet and the hospital auxiliary.”

While the golf portion of the event is full of sponsors, Gut said it could use one or two more poker table sponsors.

“We still could use some raffle prizes, too,” she said.

The Children’s Cabinet provides youth education and development as well as counseling and family referral services. The North Lake Tahoe Community Health Care Auxiliary raises funds for the Incline Village Community Hospital and medical needs of local charities, schools and churches. The Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
