Junior Sarena Joseph chips uphill on the 17th hole during the team's first meet this season at the Mountain Course in Incline.
The 2008 varsity girls golf season continues for Incline High School when the girls play in a Thursday match with North Tahoe and Pershing County (Lovelock) high schools.
The match begins at 10:30 a.m. and takes place at the Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.
IHS coach Joe Humasti said the Lady Highlanders will use Thursdays meet as another tune-up for the upcoming state meet, which is Oct. 13-14 at Genoa Lakes Golf Course.
We just need to work a little more improvement on our short game, as well as good course management, said Humasti, in regards to Thursdays match. But I have a lot of confidence well do well.
Per NIAA rules, all 2A golf teams qualify for the state tournament, regardless of how teams do in regular season meets.
Despite those scores not counting, the Lady Highlanders picked up another team win last Thursday, when they played a dual match against North Tahoe High School at Eagle Valleys par-72 east course.
Junior Katie Wright once again led the way, recording a 77 to place first between both teams. The Lady Lakers Kristen Daniels placed second, shooting a 93, while IHS junior Gwen Paul was one better than North Tahoes Haley Packard, shooting a 100 to Packards 101.
Thursdays meet was Incline third this season, and Wright has placed first in each.
