It was a tough night for the Incline football team Friday, as it suffered a 47-0 loss at home against rival Whittell.
Whittell’s standout quarterback and all-purpose man Roberto Concha-Foley returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown, his first of four touchdowns on the night, and despite some positive plays on offense, particularly the running of Tyler and Kyle Bahneman, Incline couldn’t recover.
The Warriors built a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and a 26-0 lead at halftime, highlighted by a 1-yard touchdown run from Philip Gielow, an 80-yard punt return touchdown for Concha-Foley and a 47-yard touchdown pass from Concha-Foley to Rio DeLucia.
Incline was hampered by penalties throughout the game, as it garnered 16 yellow flags on the night, many for false start or illegal procedure. Turnovers also were a problem, as Incline lost two fumbles and IHS quarterback Patrick Murray threw two interceptions, all four of which were turned into Warrior touchdowns.
Whittell scored three second half touchdowns within the first 8 minutes of the third quarter, each one after an Incline turnover.
Offensively, Murray, struggled to gain rhythm passing. He completed two passes on the night.
The Highlanders had success on the ground, as the Bahnemans teamed up for a lot of positive yardage and a few first downs, including a 27-yard run by Tyler Bahneman early in the second quarter, and 13-yard run later in that drive, on a fourth and five. However, Incline lost yards on its next two plays, and also was flagged for a false start, forcing a punt.
The loss dropped Incline to 0-4 on the season. Whittell now is 2-2. Next up for Incline is a 7:30 p.m. game Friday at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.
