The Childrens Cabinet in Incline Village is encouraging community members to buy tickets for their Oct. 12 event when piano savant Rex Lewis-Clack and his mother Cathleen Lewis will visit Incline and share their stories.
Its a great opportunity for our community to experience something like this performance, said Elyse Gut, event organizer for the Childrens Cabinet . Its a unique opportunity to see this musical prodigy and piano savant.
There are a handful of people like him in the world and this is a great opportunity to support the nonprofit the Childrens Cabinet.
Rex is a 13-year-old musical savant. He is one of a handful of people in the world who share a mysterious combination of blindness, mental disability, and musical genius. His striking abilities in contrast to his disabilities have been documented by CBS news magazine 60 Minutes since he was 8 years old.
The event will begin at the Hyatts Regency Ballroom at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 with an introduction followed by Cathleens keynote address and Rexs performance on a concert grand piano.
A 30-minute question and answer session will follow this presentation. An advanced release of Cathleens memoir REX will be available to Childrens Cabinet for this event, giving attendees the opportunity to meet Cathleen during a book signing immediately following the presentation.
Choose between general admission seating at $35 per ticket or preferred seating at $60 per ticket (limited availability) for the performance. Youth tickets for children 18 years or younger are available for $20 each. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., a casual reception with cocktails and light hors doeuvres will be held in the intimate setting of the Lakeside Ballroom overlooking Lake Tahoe. This reception gives attendees an opportunity to meet Rex and Cathleen while sharing the experience of the performance with other attendees. Tickets for the reception are $100 per person.
Tickets can be bought online at www.cciv.org/rex. Tickets can also be bought at the Childrens Cabinet office at 948 Incline Way or at the Village Square Family in Raleys Center.
