Shorezone moving forward

An update to Lake Tahoe’s long-disputed shorezone rules moved toward possible Governing Board acceptance this month, following an approval by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Advisory Planning Commission Wednesday.

The APC approved TRPA staff recommendations regarding the new regulations on Tuesday, while recommending the Governing Board discuss several possible additions.

Among the recommendations were giving priority for future buoy approvals to existing legal buoys in the lake and requiring the installation of erosion-control measures, known as best management practices, before approving certain shorezone activities, said TRPA spokesman Dennis Oliver.

The Governing Board could adopt the amendments at the meeting on the South Shore later this month.

The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 22 at the TRPA board rooms at 128 Market St. in Stateline.
