The North Lake Tahoe Bonanza will host two election forums this month to help voters educate themselves on two issues relevant to the Nov. 4 election the national economy as it pertains to the presidential race and the issue of Incline Village and Crystal Bay becoming a town.
The Independent Incline forum will build off the discussion at the Bonanzas last Independent Incline forum at St. Patricks Episcopal Church Aug. 20. At its Oct. 14 event, the Bonanza will present two groups one for the idea of creating a town and one against the idea. Each group will have a chance to present reasons for their cause and interact with the audience by answering pre-screened questions. The Bonanza will begin the evening with a presentation on the facts about Independent Incline as discovered in its Becoming a Town? series.
Members of the pro panel include Jim Clark, Ed Gurowitz and Gene Brockman. Members of the con panel include Gene Murrieta, Bill Hane Sr. and Gayle Holderer.
The Bonanza would also like to organize a panel of neutral participants who can offer questions about the idea but not take a stance.
If you are interested in being a part of the neutral panel, please contact News Editor Annie Flanzraich at aflanz@tahoebonanza.com or call (775) 831-4666. In addition to a second Independent Incline panel, the Bonanza is also adding a forum to discuss the economy and the national presidential election.
That forum will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at St. Patricks Episcopal Church. Moderated by Incline High School government teacher Milt Hyams, this forum will encourage community discussion about the nations economy and what policies could help or hurt it. The panel will include Incline High School students, two Sierra Nevada College students, four community members with an economic background and representatives from both the Obama and McCain campaigns.
