When it comes to business, ideas, life and golf, Roger Wittenberg has one motto.
"I think of it the way I think of golf I don't keep score and I only remember the good shots," Wittenberg said to a crowd of 60 who attended his Fireside Chat Thursday night at Sierra Nevada College hosted by Andy Whyman.
Wittenberg is a scientist, Incline Village resident and CEO of Boulder Bay, a project that hopes to redevelop the Tahoe Biltmore property in Crystal Bay.
Through out his life, Wittenberg said a drive for innovation has driven many of his ideas.
"The need for something always backs into how do we make it in the most efficient way," Wittenberg said.
Wittenberg has found several companies that focus on recycling materials into reusable products. His most successful venture, the Trex Company, has turned billions of pounds of recycled and reclaimed plastic, including 1.3 billion grocery retail bags and waste wood each year, into alternative wood products.
After retiring from Trex, Wittenberg founded International Supply Consortium LLC, which takes on projects that use innovative building technologies and real estate projects that use these same sustainable materials.
Currently, Wittenberg is working on transforming the Tahoe Biltmore into a sustainable resort development.
"I'm not a developer but I love to demonstrate materials that I know can outperform what we have," Wittenberg said. "I think we can build an eco-tourism facility that is really cool."
Wittenberg lives with his wife Beatrice in Incline Village, with his extended family nearby.
