Lake Tahoe weather update: lake effect warning continues this morning



INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — A lake effect snow warning continues this morning for Incline Village and Crystal Bay, which should cause dangerous driving conditions for morning commuters, especially those headed to and from the Carson and Washoe valleys.

The lake effect warning began late Monday night, according to the National Weather Service in Reno, and is affecting Incline Village and Crystal Bay, along with Minden, Gardnerville, Glenbrook, Reno, Verdi and Sparks.

An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected at lake level this morning during the warning. According to the NWS, today's forecast calls for scattered snow showers and a high near 24 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Tonight, lows are expected to dip to a frigid 2 degrees, and chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Motorists throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin are urged to drive safe, as continued snowfall and windy conditions should present dangerous driving conditions.

Interstate Route 80:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 57.5 miles

between Alta California Exit 146 and California State Line.

- Snowtires or chains required for 4.3 miles between California State

Line and 0.6 miles west of Garson Road Exit 4.

- Snowtires or chains required for 14.1 miles between 0.6 miles east

of Junction East McCarren Boulevard-Sparks Exit 19 and 0.3 miles

east of Tracy Clark Exit 32.

- Snowtires or chains required for 51.4 miles between 0.4 miles east

of Lovelock Main Street Exit 106 and 0.5 miles west of Cosgrave Exit

158.

- Snowtires or chains required for 69.7 miles between 2 miles west of

Dunphy Exit 254 and 0.2 miles east of Junction State Route

229-Halleck-Ruby Valley Exit 321.

- Snowtires or chains required for 1.1 miles between 0.3 miles west of

West Wendover Exit 410 and Utah State Line.

US6:

- Snowtires or chains required for 88.5 miles between 5 miles east of

Currant and 5 miles west of Sacramento Pass.

U.S. Route 50:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 41.9 miles

between 9.1 miles east of Placerville California and 4.1 miles west

of Junction of California State Route 89.

- Snowtires or chains required for 21.1 miles between 0.7 miles east

of California State Line and 0.4 miles west of Junction US 395 at

South Carson City.

- Snowtires or chains required for 46.6 miles between 0.5 miles east

of Junction State Route 121-Dixie Valley Road and 0.3 miles east of

New Pass Summit.

- Snowtires or chains required for 11.3 miles between 0.3 miles east

of Austin and 0.3 miles west of Junction State Route 376.

- Snowtires or chains required for 9.6 miles between 0.5 miles east of

Eureka and Junction Duck Water Road.

- Snowtires or chains required for 348 miles between 3.4 miles west of

- Snowtires or chains required for 60.2 miles between Bliss State Park

and 7 miles north of Calpine California.

State Route 431/Mt. Rose Highway:

- Snowtires or chains required for 22.1 miles between Junction State

Route 28 and 2.4 miles south of Junction US 395.

California Route 267:

- Snowtires or chains required for 5.9 miles between Junction of

Interstate 80 at Truckee California and Northstar.

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 6.7 miles

between Northstar and Junction California 28 at Kings Beach.
