Lake Tahoe weather: snow, chain controls return to basin



LAKE TAHOE — Snow is expected to continue through Sunday, potentially bringing 3 more inches of snow at lake level, and with that, dangerous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, most of Sunday's snow should fall before 10 p.m.. A low of 19 degrees is expected Sunday night.

On Monday, a 20 percent chance of snow showers is expected, with a high near 28. From Tuesday through next weekend, mild weather is expected to return, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s.

Below is an updated snowtire and chain control report from the Nevada Department of Transportation, for all major Tahoe roadways,

Interstate Route 80:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 36.3 miles

between Baxter California Exit 148B and 1.8 miles west of Truckee

California Exit 188A.

- Snowtires or chains required for 12.6 miles between 0.8 miles west

of Golconda Exit 194 and 0.7 miles east of Pumpernickel Valley Exit

205.

- Snowtires or chains required for 9.9 miles between 4.6 miles west of

Summit Exit 373 and 0.3 miles west of Oasis Exit 378.

U.S. Route 50:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 23.6 miles

between 2 miles west of Kyburz California and 4.1 miles west of

Junction of California State Route 89.

- Snowtires or chains required for 12.7 miles between 0.5 miles west

of Glenbrook and 0.4 miles west of Junction US 395 at South Carson

City.

- Snowtires or chains required for 22.3 miles between 3.4 miles west

of Little Antelope Summit and 5.6 miles west of Robinson Summit.

- Snowtires or chains required for 9.4 miles between 5 miles west of

Sacramento Pass and 4.4 miles east of Sacramento Pass.

U.S. Route 395:

- Snowtires or chains required for 9.1 miles between 0.3 miles north

of Lemmon Valley Exit 74 and 0.4 miles north of Bordertown Exit 83.

State Route 28:

- Snowtires or chains required for 3.9 miles between Junction US 50

and 3.9 miles north of Junction US 50.

- Snowtires or chains required for 4 miles between 4 miles north of

Tahoe City California and Tahoe City California.

State Route 89:

- Snowtires or chains required for 67.9 miles between 2.8 miles north

of Junction US 50 and 7 miles north of Calpine California.

State Route 431:

- Snowtires or chains required for 17 miles between Junction State

Route 28 and 7.5 miles south of Junction US 395.

California Route 267:

- Snowtires or chains required for 12.6 miles between Junction of

Interstate 80 at Truckee California and Junction California 28 at

Kings Beach.
