Lake Tahoe weather: more snow expected Thursday, Friday



LAKE TAHOE — More snow is expected Thursday for the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

While there is inly a 20 percent chance of snow during the day Thursday, that chance increases to 60 percent for the evening, and a total of 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected over night.

On Friday, as much as 3 to 7 inches of new snow is in the forecast.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Increasing clouds, with a high near 30. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 20. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday: Snow. High near 27. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Friday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 17. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 33. South wind around 5 mph.

Saturday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Sunday: Snow. High near 31. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Sunday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.

All routes open without restrictions except the following areas.

Interstate Route 80:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 31.2 miles

between Nyack California Exit 156 and Central Truckee Exit 186.

- Snowtires or chains required for 6.5 miles between 0.6 miles east of

Junction East McCarren Boulevard-Sparks Exit 19 and 0.7 miles east

of Mustang Exit 23.

U.S. Route 50:

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 11 miles

between 10.6 miles east of Kyburz California and 4.1 miles west of

Junction of California State Route 89.

- Snowtires or chains required for 14.6 miles between 0.7 miles east

of California State Line and 6.9 miles west of Junction US 395 at

South Carson City.

- Snowtires or chains required for 46.6 miles between 0.5 miles east

of Junction State Route 121-Dixie Valley Road and 0.3 miles east of

New Pass Summit.

U.S. Route 395:

- Snowtires or chains required for 11.4 miles between East Junction US

50 and State Route 530-Williams Street and Winters Ranch.

State Route 28:

- Snowtires or chains required for 26.8 miles between Junction US 50

and Tahoe City California.

State Route 89:

- Snowtires or chains required for 29.4 miles between Junction

California State Route 28 at Tahoe City California and Sierraville

California.

- Snowtires or chains required for 7 miles between Calpine California

and 7 miles north of Calpine California.

State Route 431:

- Snowtires or chains required for 24.5 miles between Junction State

Route 28 and Junction US 395.

California Route 267:

- Snowtires or chains required for 5.9 miles between Junction of

Interstate 80 at Truckee California and Northstar.

- Chains required except for four wheel drive vehicles for 6.7 miles

between Northstar and Junction California 28 at Kings Beach.
