INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. Sierra Nevada Colleges womens ski team isnt used to posting second-place finishes at the United States Collegiate Skiing Association championships, but did just that Wednesday in giant slalom action.
The team lost a close finish to Utahs Westminster College, one coach Branko Zagar called disappointing.
I know they can ski better than they did today, Zagar said. They all had a rough time of it during the first run and really made up their times for the second run.
Zagar said he couldnt be too disappointed, though, as the team finished second.
Official results were not yet posted as of Wednesday afternoon, but Zagar said freshman Hedvig Spaengs placed third, followed by seniors Caroline Bergstroem (5th), Jessica Bouleau (7th) and Martina Hulten (30th).
At the 2008 USCSA Championships in Sunday River, Maine, the team won the GS, Hulten placed first and Bouleau placed third.
Zagar said the women are eager to avenge the second place finish Friday when they race in slalom.
The mens team is in action for the first time Thursday in GS.
