INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The first national championship for the Sierra Nevada College ski team came Thursday as the men’s team won the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Skiing Association’s National Championships in Winter Park, Colo.

The team edged Utah’s Westminster College, who had beat the Eagles’ women’s team Wednesday in GS.

Sophomore Matyas Mleziva placed second in the event with a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 57.66 seconds.

Junior Mickey Ross was the next Eagle across the line in fourth place with a 1:58.56. Sophomore Kevin Sheehan rounded out the Eagles’ scoring attack with a 2:00.04.

The men are next in action Saturday for slalom competition.
