INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. Civic engagement will be the topic of a two-hour special meeting Wednesday scheduled for the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Citizen Advisory Board before their regular meeting.
The special meeting will take place at 5 p.m. at 893 Southwood Blvd., followed by the boards regular meeting at 7 p.m.
Main topics of discussion will include the history of the Incline Village/Crystal Bay CAB, its role in the community and how its role could be improved or expanded, said Sarah Tone, Washoe County Community Outreach Coordinator.
University of Nevada, Reno, professor Marlene Rebori will facilitate the meeting with county staff. Rebori also spoke at the CABs February meeting.
We wanted to have an open forum so people could join in, Tone said about tonights meeting.
The board has discussed how to increase participation in the CAB for the past few months. One of the ideas brought up at Februarys meeting was to schedule the CAB meetings to come after County Commissioner John Breternitzs monthly community meetings.
Breternitz will hold his meetings the fourth Monday of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, at the regularly scheduled meeting, the board will discuss changing the CAB meeting date from 7 p.m. on the Wednesday before the first Thursday of each month to the fourth Monday of each month, to coincide with Breternitz visit.
Later this month the Washoe County Commission is scheduled to discuss restructuring the CAB for budgetary reasons. In February the board directed staff to reduce the 2009-2010 fiscal year budget by $9.8 million to account for declining sales and property tax revenues.
The boards agenda packet included cutting $191,015 from the Community Development Department, which manages the CABs.
